Barwon Heads Community GrantJuly 29 2014
With its membership now over 150, the Barwon Heads Sustainability Group has delivered on one of its major project promises by installing solar power systems across a number of community organisations in what has truly been a coming together of community, industry and government.
Five not-for-profit groups in the Barwon Heads community including Barwon Heads Anglican Church and its Op Shop, Barwon Heads Uniting Church, Barwon Heads CFA and Barwon Coast’s Heritage Centre, The Lobster Pot have each received solar power systems to assist with reducing their energy costs.
Each organisation received a solar system ranging in size from 1.5 to 3kW, with savings of $600 – $1,200 per year on electricity costs, meaning more funds are available for them to dedicate to the work they undertake in the picturesque coastal village.
The new solar systems, flagged in the 2012 Barwon Heads Sustainability Group plan as a high priority project, saw a unique collaboration between the sustainability group, Future Proofing Geelong and local sustainable energy company, City to Surf Solar+ who matched the government grant dollar for dollar.
